Barrier-Free Menstrual Products. For Anyone.

About the Period Equity Program

The Period Equity Project (PEP) is Fairy Godparents' volunteer-run initiative providing free menstrual products to anyone who needs them in London, Ontario. PEP began as a grassroots effort after a community poll revealed that many London residents lacked reliable access to menstrual products. Over time, it has grown into a citywide program focused on dignity, choice, and accessibility.
In February 2026, PEP partnered with the London Public Library to make free menstrual products available in washrooms at every branch - including men's, women's, and family spaces - ensuring access for anyone who needs it, privately and without having to ask. We want people to have dignity and independence; these products should already be free, so this became our goal:

Frequently Asked Questions

Period Equity is the notion that everyone who has a period deserves barrier-free access to whatever they need to manage their menstruation with dignity.

The donated products are distributed through our partnership with the London Public Libraries. The individual library branches contact the Period Equity Project when they are running low on products and a volunteer brings them straight to the branch where they are put in all public washrooms for free. We also sometimes support organizations getting started with their own initiatives for Period Equity.

Yes! As long as the products are individually wrapped, an open box of tampons or pads are accepted, opened, and added to a large box we call "tampon soup".

Our "tampon soup" is used to make smaller period kits for distribution to unhoused neighbours or organizations who do outreach work.

Yes, we do accept NEW reusable menstrual cups, period underwear, and washable menstrual pads.

We pop up at pride events and markets to hand out free menstrual cups and provide education on proper menstrual cup hygiene.

We also distribute reusables to people who cannot access the libraries or are frequently in need and would benefit from reusable products. When we distribute these items, there are a lot of factors to consider like if the recipient has the adequate facilities to maintain such items and are considered on an as needed basis and is contingent on availability.

"Feminine hygiene products" is an outdated term that is not inclusive of the trans masculine experience, intersex individuals, and non-binary individuals who also menstruate.

Alternative terms are "period products", "menstrual products", "menstrual hygiene products", or simply pads and tampons.

This article from when Stevie first started the Period Equity Project (then called the Period Poverty Project) outlines our humble beginnings and fast growth.

The Period Equity Project is now 4 years old!

We ARE a registered charity called Fairy Godparents-London and Period Equity Project is just one of our many initiatives. Our charitable registration number is 746528900RR0001

Fairy Godparents-London and Area (FGP) is a registered Canadian charity dedicated to relieving poverty and filling gaps in social support for marginalized individuals and families in London, Ontario. We believe that dignity and individual respect must be at the centre of every service interaction - social supports should meet people where they are, not force people to fit a one-sided system. Our programs provide free access to essential goods - school supplies, backpacks, period products, toys, and hygiene items - to children and families who need them most. We exist so that no one's potential is limited by their family's financial circumstances.

As of 2026, the majority of our distribution happens through London Public Library. Anyone in need of free products can go into any London Public Library branch and in the washroom, help themselves to products and take whatever they need with them when they leave.

This includes men's and gender neutral washrooms.

We have historically given out free pregnancy tests on an emergency basis contingent on availability. We do not provide free pregnancy tests to families trying to conceive. They are only available in emergent situations.

Period Equity Project accepts tampons, pads, liners, discs, cups, NEW washable pads, NEW period underwear, incontinence products, pregnancy tests, and hygiene wipes. Additionally we do accept open boxes and packages of products as long as the individual products are wrapped.

Fill the Truck 2026

Our annual flagship event, Fill the Truck, is the centrepiece of our collection efforts. Now in its 4th year, the event mobilizes 500+ community members to donate period products and essential goods. In the weeks leading up to Fill the Truck, we organize community mini-drives in classrooms and workplaces -
friendly competitions where teams collect products, building awareness and engagement beyond the event itself. This year’s edition takes place on June 27, 2026 at London Brewing Co-Op, with music, art and food trucks all part of a family friendly festival.
